Kuwaiti Elections Slated for June

Parliamentary elections in Kuwait will take place next month after the Kuwaiti amir dissolved the 50-member parliament on Sunday evening. Amir ‘Sabah Al-Ahmad A-‘Sabah made the dramatic move after a weeklong battle over redefining electoral districts. He called for new elections on June 29, nearly a year ahead of schedule. Members of the Kuwaiti parliament who have supported gerrymandering were pressing to reduce Kuwait’s 25 electoral districts to five. They claim it is easier for the government.....

Air Strike in Afghanistan Kills Dozens

Coalition forces killed at least 50 citizens and suspected Taliban militants in an air strike in southern Afghanistan, local citizens told the AP news agency. The attack was launched against a rebel stronghold in the village of 'Azizi in Qandahar Province, said a coalition spokesman, Maj. Scott Lundy. Diplomats Plan Taking Iran Leader to Court

A group of Israeli diplomats is planning legal action against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad, charging him with conspiring to carry out crimes against humanity, the Israeli daily Yedioth Aharonot reported. The diplomats are appealing to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in light of Ahmadi Nejad’s comments last October that Israel should be “wiped off the map” and other remarks concerning Holocaust denial. Israel Regrets Deaths of Civilians

Israel has expressed regret over the deaths of three Palestinians who were killed during an Israeli military operation on Saturday. An aerial attack killed senior Islamic Jihad operative, Muhammad Dahdouh. In the explosion, three civilians were also killed – a four year old boy, his mother and his grandmother. Several other civilians were wounded. Israeli security sources say Dahdouh was wanted for his involvement in terrorist activities, including launching rockets at Israel. The army said.....

Afghanistan - 150 killed in Two Days

More than 150 people have been killed in a series of separate incidents across Afghanistan since Friday, Afghanistan's Daily Times is reporting. In the latest incident, Taliban fighters ambushed two Afghan army convoys in the country’s south on Saturday, sparking gunfights that killed 25 of the Taliban, five Afghani soldiers and a civilian.Armed Taliban forces also killed an American soldier and wounded six, according to the United States military. The security situation in the Palestinian areas is further deteriorating following the attempted assassination of Palestinian Intelligence chief Tariq Abu Rajab on Saturday. Officials in Damascus are protesting against remarks made by European Union (EU) officials on Friday, which criticized Syria’s recent crackdown on dissidents. The Syrian Foreign Ministry summoned the EU representative on Saturday and protested against interference in Syria’s internal affairs.
